Solar Panel Cleaning — Broward County
The problem we see
Dirty panels lose output. Industry studies put the loss anywhere from 5% to 25% depending on conditions, and South Florida is hard on panels — pollen in spring, salt mist year-round on coastal homes, bird droppings, and after a hurricane, plenty of leaves and debris. If you're paying for a solar system, dirty panels are quietly costing you money every month.
How we approach it
We use a pure-water (deionized) rinse with soft brushes designed specifically for solar panel glass. No detergents that could leave residue or damage the anti-reflective coating, no abrasive pads, no high pressure that could damage the panels or void your warranty. The same method recommended by major panel manufacturers — LG, REC, SunPower, Q CELLS, Panasonic — and the same method used by commercial solar maintenance contractors.
What to expect on the day
Most homeowners see their generation numbers tick back up within a day or two of a clean. If you have monitoring through Enphase, SolarEdge, Tesla or any of the major inverter brands, it's pretty satisfying to watch. We've had customers send us screenshots of their daily generation graphs showing a step-change after a clean.
What sets us apart
We're harnessed and trained for roof work, and we work with you on scheduling so we're not on the roof during peak generation hours when the panels are hot (which is hard on the panels and on us). Most residential systems are an hour to two hours; larger systems can run longer.
Getting a quote
Twice a year is the right cadence in Broward — once after pollen season in May, once after hurricane season in November. We can put you on a schedule and remind you when you're due.
What's included
Every job comes with the same checklist. No surprises.
- Deionized water rinse on every panel
- Soft brush specifically for solar glass
- Frame and rail wipe-down
- Bird droppings, spider webs and debris removed
- Visual inspection for cracks, hot spots and discoloration
- Photo report of any damage we see
- Roof safety equipment and harnessing
- Junction box and conduit visual inspection
- Generation log review on request (we can verify post-clean improvement)
- Service report for your warranty records
How it works
Safety setup
Ladder, harness, anchor points and roof safety lines. We never work on a roof without proper fall protection.
Pre-rinse
Loose debris, leaves, palm fronds and bird droppings cleared with a soft rinse before any brushing.
Brush + DI rinse
Soft brush with deionized water on every panel surface. Working in sections, careful around the edges and frames.
Inspect + report
Visual frame check, photo log of any damage we see (hot spots, microcracks, delamination), service report sent to you for your records.
Why this matters in South Florida
South Florida's climate is brutal on exteriors
Pollen season in Broward — usually March through May — coats panels in a yellow film that hammers output. A single clean after pollen season often pays for itself in the next month or two of generation. We get a flood of solar cleaning calls in late April and May for this reason.
Why proper technique matters here
Hurricane and storm debris is the other big one. After named storms, we get plenty of calls from homeowners in Pompano Beach, Coral Springs, Parkland and Hollywood who saw their generation drop overnight. Usually it's leaves and debris on the panels, sometimes it's a panel that took a direct impact and needs more than just cleaning.
Coastal vs. inland realities
Coastal homes pick up salt residue on panels that doesn't fully rinse off in rain. Inland homes get more pollen and dust. Either way, dirty panels are losing you money every month they stay dirty.
HOA, insurance, and resale pressure
Tile roofs make solar panel access trickier than shingle roofs because of the risk of cracking tiles when walking on them. We use the right footwear and walking technique for tile roofs and have plenty of experience on the barrel tile that dominates older Broward homes with newer solar installations.
Seasonal timing that pays off
Battery storage is increasingly common with solar systems in Florida (Tesla Powerwall, Enphase IQ Battery, etc.), and a clean array is even more important when you're trying to charge a battery during the day to use at night. Dirty panels mean a battery that doesn't fully charge.
Signs it's time to call us
If any of these sound familiar, you're overdue.
What affects the price
Every property is different. These are the things we look at when we quote.
- Number of panels in the system
- Roof access — single story vs. two story
- Roof pitch and material (shingle vs. tile)
- Severity of soiling
- Whether system inspection / report is included
- Recurring service discount (semi-annual or annual)
- Distance from our service area
